Dating violence is a serious problem many young people are facing.

1 in 3 teens in the US experiences physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, ( and teens have some of the highest rates of sexual assault across age groups.

If so, this may be a sign you are in an abusive relationship.

Healthy relationship behaviors can have a positive effect on a person’s emotional development.

LGBT teens are particularly vulnerable to dating abuse, but it’s important to know that dating abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, orientation, race or ethnicity, family background, or income level.

Teens are particularly vulnerable, as they may not be able to access legal or support services without the help of a parent or guardian.

It often starts with teasing or name-calling, and can escalate over time to physical assault and rape. Part of what makes dating violence so painful and hard to understand is that there is love mixed with the abuse.

This can make it hard to realize that you really are being abused.

Those with disabilities and same-sex partners, as well as tweens (kids age 11-14), homeless youth and teens with/or expecting children, however, can be at greater risk.It is important to create spaces, such as school communities, where the behavioral norms are not tolerant of abuse in dating relationships.
